Disney have confirmed that they plan to lock DLC onto copies of Infinity and charge people to unlock them. Despite a lot of recent controversy in regards to DLC, especially with Capcom, Disney are being quite brazen and Frank about the whole thing. This would suggest overwhelming confidence in the games’ sales or ignorance of the gaming industry.

Speaking with Videogamer.com, Disney Infinity’s executive producer John Vignocchi, says that the market simply isn’t ready to handle downloadable content any other way (what?):

As we move on to new versions of consoles we’re going to be able to digitally deliver that content, and the figurines themselves will simply be dongles that allow us to then instantiate a download of that content. But given the current generation of consoles, the content needs to be on the disc. But in the future we’ll be able to push all that digitally so we don’t run into that problem.

Disney’s main worry however, is that people are going to hack the new information, which may contain spoilers to upcoming and even unannounced projects. What is Disney’s weapon to combat this? Good Will for all mankind!

There’s absolute potential that people are going to see characters prior to their PR campaigns kicking off if someone does that, but we’re hoping that isn’t something that is widespread reported because then people are going to start looking for it, and it’s going to ruin the magic for the consumer.

That’s something that we’ve made the film-makers aware of.

Lets also remember that Disney own Marvel and Lucasfilm now.

Am I the only one that thinks this is crazy? They’re hoping that people will just choose not to divulge any information. Have they been on the internet? They’re either incredibly ignorant or they have another trick up their sleeves somewhere.
